Who Are We ?

Vyoma is a team of engineering professionals and students from R V College of Engineering, Bangalore working on the research and development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Started in 2007, the team, in association with various corporate organizations has participated in Aero design competitions both at the national and international level.

Our Achievements

  • Team VYOMA was the first ever and the only team from Asia to participate in this Global event: SAE Aerodesign and to successfully fly its aircraft.
  • Adjudged the team with an “OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE” by SAE Aerodesign.
  • Vyoma-I was ranked 18th , out of the 40 teams that participated in the event, a outstanding finish for a team on debut.
  • Vyoma-II was ranked 20th , out of the 43 teams that participated in the event.
  • Awarded a “ CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION” for being the first and only team to represent India at the event by none other than Her Excellency , Honorable President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devsingh Patil.

 

SAE Aerodesign 2011

The 2011 SAE AeroDesign event was conducted from the 29th of April to 1st of May. A total of 75 teams from all over the world participated in what was the most competitive event till date. The team performed a total of 3 successful flights out of 6 attempts and carried a maximum payload of 5 lbs. Since the flight round in which 5 lbs were carried exceeded the take off distance by a bit, the previous flight round in which 2 lbs were carried was considered the maximum by the team. Overall, Team Vyoma was placed 8th at the end of the competition.

 

SAE Aerodesign 2009

The SAE Aero Design competition was held at Marietta, Georgia, USA from 3rd to 5th April, 2009. After all the formalities of evaluation and design verification, the plane was cleared for take-off. The plane(Vyoma-II) had twice the number of successful flights and three times the payload capacity than the first plane owing to improvements in the plane design. The plane secured 20th position among the 45 teams that participated.

SAE Aerodesign 2008

The event was conducted in Marietta, Georgia, U.S.A. TEAM VYOMA was taking part for the first time in the event. It was a 3 day event where various UAVs from universities all around the globe, took part and flew their aircrafts. The competition provides undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students with a real life engineering exercise. There are restrictions on the available power, aircraft length, width and height requirements. As per the requirement of the competition, VYOMA – I was a low speed high lift UAV. Due to financial constraints, the aircraft had to be built with Balsa wood while the top 8 out of the top 10 teams used carbon fibers. Technically design wise, VYOMA - I was on par with top teams.
